Honorable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,
“As England belongs to the English or France to the French, Palestine belongs to the Arabs.” This assertion underscores a fundamental truth about national identity and sovereignty. The horrendous events of the past seven months have only intensified the urgency for a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the situation in the Middle East.
Jordan has long been a steadfast supporter of Palestinian rights and sovereignty. Our nation currently hosts almost two million Palestinian refugees, many of whom live in dire conditions.
In 1947, the United Nations Assembly took a pivotal decision to partition Palestine. Yet, it is only Israel that has been granted membership in the United Nations, while the Palestinian people have been continuously denied their fundamental rights. This Assembly now has the opportunity to rectify this historic injustice by admitting Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
Granting Palestine full UN membership is not merely a symbolic gesture; it is a reinforcement of the principles of international law.Admitting Palestine as a full UN member is a primary step toward realizing a two-State solution, which is crucial for achieving lasting peace in the region. It is time to end the hegemonic dominance of power by states like the USA whose continuous attempts to prevent the establishment of Palestinian as a union State will only serve to perpetuate the insecurity and instability created by the Israeli occupation of territories in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon. After all, if resolutions keep getting vetoed, how can we expect to find a solution
The United States has used its veto power 9 times to block resolutions critical of Israel and supportive of Palestinian rights, stalling the path to peace and justice. .US VETOS
The prolonged conflict exacerbates the humanitarian situation, placing immense strain on our resources and infrastructure. These refugees have the right to return to their homeland, a right enshrined in international law, yet denied due to ongoing territorial disputes and occupation.
The Jordanian government has taken steps to mitigate some of these challenges, such as supporting a sewerage project in Jerash camp and providing health insurance for ex-Gazan children under six and subsidized healthcare for other ex-Gazans. It is time for the international community to take responsibility and ensure that Palestinian refugees are granted their full rights.[[Refugees in Jordan]]
To move forward, Jordan proposes the following solutions:
-
**International Support for Palestinian Statehood:** . This support will signal a commitment to justice and equity, providing Palestine with the recognition and rights it has long been denied.
-
**Enhanced Diplomatic Engagement:** We advocate for increased diplomatic efforts to facilitate negotiations between Israel and Palestine. A concerted international push for dialogue and compromise will be essential in moving towards a two-State solution.

In conclusion, the admission of Palestine as a full UN member is a critical step towards correcting historical injustices and fostering inclusive diplomacy. It is time to ensure that all nations, regardless of their geopolitical influence, are held accountable and that the principles of justice and equality are upheld.
Thank you.
